National Museum

National Museum occupies a monumental neo-renaissance building from the end of the 19th century. The National Museum is the oldest and largest museum in the Czech Republic. The National Museum institution was located in several buildings until 1891, when the new building on the top of the Wenceslas Square was opened. At present the National Museum shelters almost 14 million of items from the area of natural history, history, arts, music and librarianship, located in tens of buildings. Permanent collections includes zoological, palaeontological. mineralogical and petrological and anthropological collection. At present, the historical building of National Museum is closed for restoration. The exhibits are moved to the nearby new building of the former Parliament.
